Holding Ourselves Accountable After The Holidays

It’s no mystery that the holidays, while delightful, can wreak havoc on our bodies, our minds, our relationships, and our wallets.  After what seemed like an eternity of planning, loving, giving, receiving, partying, resting, buying, greeting, and gorging, we now find ourselves in January. The first month of the New Year. A fresh start. A new hope. The light at the end of a tunnel part of you wishes you could stay in forever. But you know you can’t go on like this.

You’ve been handed the chance to rid yourself of a two-month (or maybe 12-month?) reenactment of your freshman year in college, and it is time to do something about that one thing you’ve been putting off since the first time you said you were going to do it… It’s Resolution time.

Unwrapping the 2016 Holiday Shopping Season

While the 2016 holiday shopping season saw a slow start, overall sales ended on a high note - outperforming last year by double-digits. The last minute push for sales resulted in a new shopping day (Super Saturday) taking center stage, overshadowing sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. As usual, the battle between brick and mortar and e-commerce continues, with online retailers gaining strength. However, the slow start may be indicative of a larger shift in spending as consumers have come to expect they can find a great deal any time of the year. The traditional holiday shopping season may be extending to incorporate an entire year of gift-buying opportunities. But let’s face it, there will always be those shopping procrastinators out on Christmas Eve searching for the perfect gift - and retailers and manufacturers better be there to help them find it.
