SMART Honored at CMA 2016 Best Practice Awards

Retail Leader and The Category Management Association hosted their 2ndAnnual Best Practice Awards during the 2016 Category Management Conference in September. Hosted by at the Mirage in Las Vegas, the awards honored ‘Best-in-Class’ collaborative initiatives.

In the Collaborative Planning award category, SMART’s Team Leader of Category Leadership, Chris Howe, received the Bronze award for crafting a client’s bread shelving strategy at a national retailer within the grocery channel.

Party. Bash. Shindig.

And the ceremony begins. As you watch the couple’s nearest and dearest make their way down the aisle to take their place by the bride and groom, you realize that you recognize the processional music. Was it at the last wedding you attended?

No, that’s not it. Today’s bride wouldn’t dream of playing the same music as another bride. That’s like wedding suicide.

You’ve completely forgotten about the ceremony taking place to figure out what this song is and then it hits you –it’s the Jurassic Park theme song played by a string quartet. You start to wonder what lies beyond the ceremony and hope that a T-Rex didn’t RSVP yes.

Advantage and Albertsons 2016 Business Summit Goes Off Without a Hitch

Advantage’s 3rd annual Client Summit commenced last week in Boise. This year’s Business Summit was a great opportunity for an open dialogue with the leadership of CPG Suppliers, Albertsons Companies, and Advantage Solutions with a goal of growing our shared business. The 2-day event, hosted at Albertsons Companies Headquarters, highlighted powerful results, new capability innovations and even a capture or two of Pikachu.

SMART is Represented at Refrigerated Foods Association Annual Conference

SMART Market Research Division Helps Idahoan Foods Achieve Progressive Grocer’s 2015 Category Captain Award for Canned & Packaged Foods

This year, SMART'S Market Research division helped Idahoan Foods, a share leader in the dehydrated potatoes category, to create a robust path-to-purchase study that tracked decision points that affect how/why consumers purchase Instant Potatoes. These new learnings inspired decision makers at Idahoan to create in-store perimeter meal solutions that encourage basket building and give the category exposure in high-traffic areas. Additionally, this new strategy has played a substantial role in Idahoan’s sales and household penetration growth this past year.

SMART Goes the Extra Mile to Help Mars & Wrigley Win Halloween

The planning that goes into celebrating Halloween can be exhausting for all of us. What do we wear this year? Is our spider-web and scarecrow décor up to par? And most importantly, DID WE BUY ENOUGH CANDY TO FEED ALL THE TRICK-OR-TREATERS?!

It’s also a critical time of year for one of ASM’s most valued clients, Mars Candy. This year, SMART hit the stores in support of ASM and Mars to make sure our candy brands were properly merchandised and in optimal selling locations during the critical days leading up to Halloween.


SMART associates visited stores in Portland, Boise, and Harrisburg markets to stock shelves, improve displays, and ensure MARS and Wrigley products were in position to win this Halloween season.

During our store visits, ASM grew Mars sales during the largest confection holiday of the year, surpassing sell-thru objectives at Walmart for Mars and Wrigley brands, and increasing Mars share of sales across multiple channels.

Thanks again to the team at SMART - We certainly earned our TREATS this Halloween!
